04

Google Shopping

A clean product feed for Merchant Center – for free listings and Shopping ads.

Why shops need different SEO

A company website might have 30 pages. An online shop quickly has thousands: products, variations, categories, tags, filters, sort orders and pagination. Without clear rules, WooCommerce produces many duplicate and thin pages. Google then spreads its attention across unimportant URLs while the crucial category and product pages miss out.

We know these problems from practice. We have built WooCommerce plugins for years and run our own plugin shop, so we implement shop SEO directly in templates and shop configuration – not as a checklist.

The key levers

Category pages as landing pages

For terms like "wooden beds" or "handmade baby toys" a category page usually ranks, not a single product. We give your key categories a helpful intro, sensible subcategories and links from navigation and content.

Product pages that sell and rank

Original, useful descriptions, answers to typical questions, good images with descriptive file names and alt texts, and reviews from real customers – plus structured data for price, availability, shipping and returns.

Technical order

We decide which filter, sort and tag pages belong in the index, set canonicals correctly, avoid redirect chains and make sure sold-out or deleted products are handled cleanly.

Typical problems in online shops

Shops grow fast – and so do the technical issues. These are the points we find most often in audits:

  • Duplicate content from variants, filters and sorting
  • Category pages without text that Google can hardly classify
  • Sold-out or deleted products without a redirect
  • Slow product pages due to large images and many plugins
  • Missing or faulty structured data for price and availability

Structured data for products

With structured data you tell Google the price, availability, ratings and shipping costs of your products in a machine-readable way. This is the basis for rich results with stars and prices – and for free product listings in the Shopping tab. We check whether your data is complete and error-free and add what is missing.

Internal linking in the shop

How pages link to each other shows Google which pages matter. In shops, the categories that generate the most revenue often get lost because menus and filters create thousands of links. We make sure your most important categories and products can be reached from many places: the main menu, breadcrumbs, related categories and relevant product recommendations.

Guide content for buying decisions

Many searches start with a question rather than a product name. With guides and buying advice, you reach prospects early and lead them to the right categories. We plan this content around the questions your customers really ask.

Frequently asked questions

Find more answers in our FAQ.

Can't I just use the manufacturer's descriptions?

You can, but then hundreds of shops have the same text, and Google usually shows only a few of them – often the big retailers. Your own copy for key products and categories is one of the strongest levers in shop SEO.

What's the problem with filters?

Every combination of color, size, price and sort order can create its own URL. That produces thousands of near-identical pages that waste crawl budget and dilute rankings. We define which filter pages should be indexed and which shouldn't.

Which SEO plugin do you recommend for WooCommerce?

Established plugins such as Yoast SEO or Rank Math cover the basics well. What matters is the setup – and everything a plugin can't do: content, structure and speed.

What do I do with sold-out products?

If the product comes back, the page stays online and shows its availability. If it is gone for good, we redirect the URL to a suitable successor or the category. That way, neither visitors nor rankings are lost.

How long does shop SEO take?

Technical improvements are often implemented within a few weeks. Until new category texts and structures show in rankings, it usually takes a few months – depending on the size of the shop and the competition.
